Starting a food truck business is an exciting step, but getting everything approved (blueprint, permit, equipment…) can take longer than people realize. Purchasing a food truck is one part of the process. There’s still other steps, including the health permit, passing inspections, and meeting health department requirements to operate legally.

Renting a food truck provides an easy alternative. Instead of purchasing a truck before knowing if the business is the right fit, renting allows entrepreneurs to test their concept first. It also removes many of the delays involved with getting a new truck ready for service.

The Food Truck Group provides food truck rentals for new businesses, established caterers, private events, festivals, brand activations, and companies looking for a fully equipped mobile kitchen. Our trucks are ready to operate, allowing you to focus on building your business instead of preparing a truck for its first day on the road.

A Faster Way To Start

Receiving a permit can be the longest part of obtaining a new food truck.

A newly built food truck must complete a plan check, inspections, equipment verification, and health department approval before it can legally operate. Depending on the jurisdiction, this process can take several months.

Our rental program removes this step.

Every rental truck from The Food Truck Group possesses an active Los Angeles County Health Permit. Rather than waiting for approvals, you can spend that time finalizing your menu, purchasing inventory, securing commissary service, and planning your schedule.

Renting also gives people looking into the food truck industry the opportunity to operate a food truck before making the financial commitment of purchasing one. Running a food truck this way provides valuable experience that can help shape future business decisions.

What Comes With Your Rental

Every rental includes access to a fully equipped food truck that was approved by Los Angeles County.

The rental includes use of the vehicle along with the active LA County Health Permit assigned to that truck. The truck already contains the commercial kitchen equipment required to prepare and serve food and already meets county health standards.

Depending on the layout you choose, your rental may include equipment such as flat top griddles, charbroilers, fryers, refrigerators, prep stations, steam tables, sinks, fire suppression systems, storage space, and other commercial kitchen equipment designed for mobile food service.

Because the truck is already permitted and operational, you avoid the time and expense of taking a newly purchased truck through plan check, construction corrections, inspections, and final approval before opening for business.

What You'll Need to Provide

While we provide the truck and health permit, there are still a few responsibilities left for the renter.

You’ll need to obtain your own commercial insurance that meets the requirements for operating the food truck.

A commissary is also required. If you’re unfamiliar with commissaries, we cover them in more detail in another article you can find through the link here. Los Angeles County requires every permitted food truck to operate from an approved commissary.

The purpose of a commissary is to legally park your food truck when not in service. It also functions as a location where you can fill your food truck with fresh water, supply it with ice, connect overnight to electricity, wash the truck, and serves as a location where wastewater, grease, and trash are properly disposed of.

Another requirement is to obtain your own generator. The generator powers the food truck while you’re serving customers, supplying electricity to refrigerators, lighting, exhaust systems, water pumps, and other electrical equipment throughout the day.

After these items are in place, you’ll have everything needed to begin operating your rental truck.

Long-Term Rental Requirements

Our long-term rentals are designed for customers who want to operate a food truck business without purchasing a truck outright.

Rental terms may range from six months to a year, giving businesses enough time to establish themselves without committing fully if there’s still any doubt.

A security deposit is required before the rental begins, and your first month’s rent is due when you receive the keys.

Once the agreement is complete, you can begin operating the food truck under the terms of the rental contract.

Once the agreement is complete, you can operate the food truck under the terms of the rental contract. This allows the business to focus on growing their customer base while avoiding the large upfront investment of purchasing a food truck.

Maintenance and Repairs

The Food Truck Group handles the majority of maintenance and repairs related to the truck itself.

If mechanical issues or equipment problems arise during the rental period, our team works to keep the truck operating properly.

The Food Truck Group handles the majority of maintenance and repairs related to the truck itself. If normal mechanical issues or equipment problems arise, our team works to keep the truck operating properly.

This reduces the repair costs you would otherwise face when owning a food truck.

Instead of finding a repair shop that can fix a food truck and risk potential delays, renters have support from a team that works with food trucks every day.

Our commitment to ensure the food truck remains in good operating condition allows renters to spend more time serving customers and less time dealing with vehicle maintenance.

Built for Different Types of Businesses

Every food truck business operates differently.

Some businesses serve lunch throughout the week. Others may specialize in catering, breweries, private events, festivals, night markets, or promotional campaigns.

Different menus require different kitchen layouts. Some are suited for grilling, while others are equipped for frying, beverage service, or anything the business requires.

The Food Truck Group offers a variety of truck layouts so renters can select a vehicle that fits their menu and cooking style. Starting with the right equipment makes daily operation much more efficient than trying to adapt a menu to a truck that wasn’t designed for it.

Whether you’re launching a new concept, expanding an existing catering business, or operating seasonal events, we can help match you with a truck suited to your operation.

Helping Businesses Get on the Road

The Food Truck Group has worked with entrepreneurs, caterers, event companies, and national brands looking for a dependable way to operate from a fully permitted food truck.

Our rental food trucks help simplify the process. Our permitted truck, ongoing support, and maintenance throughout the rental remove many of the delays involved with opening a mobile food business.

With a fully permitted vehicle, a straightforward rental process, and support from a team that works exclusively in the mobile food industry, you can spend less time waiting for approvals and more time focusing on your business.
