IBM x The Food Truck Group: Supporting a Commercial on Hybrid Cloud and AI

A wide shot on a road at sunset. Two food trucks are parked together, blocking the road for the AD. Standing in front of the food trucks are the drivers discussing. In front of them is the IBM logo, followed by a link to IBM’s hybrid cloud.

Collaborations between brands and productions require more than a rental. When a commercial includes physical assets like food trucks, additional care must be taken to match both the creative direction and the practical needs of the production.

For a recent commercial, IBM partnered with The Food Truck Group to promote their hybrid cloud solutions and the role of AI in helping insurers better predict and manage risk. The campaign focused on how data and technology can support decision-making in industries where outcomes are difficult to anticipate.

The Food Truck Group supported this project by providing two food trucks used in the commercial. While our role was centered on the vehicles, those trucks became part of how the campaign’s concept was presented visually.

The Objective Behind the Campaign

IBM’s commercial focused on its hybrid cloud platform and consulting services, with an emphasis on how insurers are adopting these systems to improve forecasting and operational efficiency.

Hybrid cloud environments allow companies to combine on-premise infrastructure with cloud-based systems. This approach provides flexibility in how data, applications, and workloads are managed. When paired with AI, these systems can analyze patterns and generate insights that support more informed decisions.

For insurers, this type of technology is especially relevant. Risk assessment is a core part of the industry, and the ability to better predict outcomes can have a direct impact on how policies are structured and managed.

The campaign required a visual approach that could communicate these ideas clearly while remaining consistent with IBM’s position as both a technology provider and a consulting firm.

Why Food Trucks Were Part of the Concept

To translate a technical message into a visual format, the production incorporated food trucks into the campaign.

Food trucks are recognizable, mobile, and adaptable to different environments. They provide a clear physical structure that can be integrated into a scene without requiring complex setup or explanation.

In this commercial, the trucks were used to support the theme of unpredictability and the importance of being prepared for unexpected outcomes. Their movement within the frame helped reinforce that concept in a straightforward way.

The simplicity of the vehicles allowed the focus to remain on the concept rather than the food trucks themselves.

The Food Truck Group’s Role

The Food Truck Group was responsible for providing the food trucks used in the commercial.

For this campaign, we supplied two vehicles: Stephen’s Spicy and Sweets and Bette’s Bagels. Both trucks were created and wrapped based on IBM’s needs and how they fit into the visual direction of the production.

Our role focused on ensuring that the trucks were available, properly prepared, and aligned with the production schedule. In commercial work, timing and reliability are essential, as each part of the shoot depends on everything being in place when needed.

Because the trucks were being used on camera, their condition and presentation needed to meet production standards. This includes both the exterior appearance and how the vehicles perform during filming.

Supporting the Production Process

Providing vehicles for a commercial involves more than delivering them to a location.

Each food truck needs to be coordinated with the production team to ensure it arrives within the schedule’s constraints and fits the layout of the shoot. This includes determining placement and making sure the vehicles can be parked safely.

For this campaign, the trucks were integrated into a controlled production environment. This required coordination between multiple teams, including production, direction, and logistics.

The Food Truck Group worked within that structure to ensure the vehicles were ready and positioned as needed throughout the shoot. This kept the food trucks out of the way until they were needed for video shoots.

The Food Trucks in the Commercial

The commercial features both Bette’s Bagels and Stephen’s Spicy and Sweets as part of its visual direction.

At one point in the commercial, Bette’s Bagels crashes Stephen’s Spicy and Sweets. This moment supports the campaign’s theme around anticipating outcomes and managing risk, aligning with IBM’s messaging.

From a production standpoint, coordinating this type of movement requires careful planning. The vehicles must be positioned and controlled in a way that allows the scene to be executed safely while achieving the intended visual effect.

Working With Large-Scale Brands

Collaborating with companies like IBM involves understanding how large-scale campaigns are structured.

These projects bring together multiple teams, including creative direction, production, logistics, and brand management. Each team works toward a specific objective that contributes to the overall campaign.

The Food Truck Group’s role is to integrate into that process without disrupting it. By focusing on the specific requirements related to the vehicles, we support the production while maintaining consistency with the broader goals of the campaign.

Food Trucks in Commercial and Brand Work

Food trucks are often used in commercial work because of their flexibility and visual presence.

They can be modified with wraps or branding to align with a campaign, and they can be placed in a variety of environments. This adaptability makes them useful for different types of creative direction.

Whether they are used as part of the main scene or as supporting elements, food trucks provide a recognizable structure that can fit into a wide range of concepts.

For brands, this makes them a practical option when a campaign requires a physical component that can be both functional and visual.

Commercials and Food Trucks

The collaboration between IBM and The Food Truck Group brought together a technical campaign and a physical production element.

By providing the food trucks used in the commercial, The Food Truck Groupsupported the execution of a campaign focused on hybrid cloud solutions and AI-driven insights.

Projects like this highlight the importance of preparation, coordination, and reliability when working within a production environment. Each component needs to be aligned with the overall direction to ensure the final result meets expectations.

For The Food Truck Group, this type of work reflects a structured approach to supporting productions through dependable vehicle sourcing and management.
